Report on 2025 Australian Hickory Championships held in South Australia
Organised by Andrew Baker of Fleurieu Golf Society.
The Australian Championships were held from Sunday 11 October to 13 October 2025. The weather was fine with temperate fine sunny conditions over the three days.
Sunday Canadian Foursomes were played at Westward Ho public links. There were 76 starters with players from China, Japan and New Zealand.
Two pairs had the top score of 75. The sudden death playoff was between Alan Grieve and Alexander Johnstone and Peter Shaw and Justin Ryan, Peter Shaw and Justin Ryan prevailed on the first play off hole.
The net Foursomes was won by Ross Bishop and Rob King-Scott with a net 66.5. David Jones and his partner were runners up on 67.5.
The first round of the Championship was held at Royal Adelaide Golf Club again in superb weather. The Royal Adelaide greens proved a real challenge to some of our better players. The greens were fast and true but with very subtle breaks that even our best putters found difficult. The leading score was 74. The second round at the Grange was held in more benign conditions. At the end of the day there were two player on the same score of 153. Anthony Doyle (professional at Christchurch Golf Club prevailed over Tim Sayers in a sudden death play off at the first hole dropping a 15 foot putt for birdie.
The handicap winner was Ross Bishop with a net 134.
The South Australian Championship was held next day at Ashbourne Golf Club. Ross Bishop previewed again with the best net score and Ross and Rob King-Scott won the net Foursomes championship.
