2026 Queensland Hickory Foursomes Championship
The field was reduced this year, likely owing to the upcoming Australia and Asia Pacific Hickory Championships, which begin next week on 5, 6 and 7 July 2026.
The competition was played in inclement weather reminiscent of a summer's day in Scotland, with the field drenched by a sudden downpour as they played their final hole. Nevertheless, it was contested in good humour and fierce competition. There were some strong pairings, with Ralph Heading making a welcome appearance alongside his partner Chris Cooper. However, they met an unexpected clash with newcomers Michael Brown and Bobby Smith, who eventually took out the day with a very commendable two-over-par performance. Arthur O'Shea was also on hand to provide his usual humour and insight, partnering Rob King-Scott.
The standard of golf varied, with many teams coming unstuck in the bunkers and not getting the usual run on the fairways expected in June. As in the past three years, the champions won both the gross and net events; however, under the rules they cannot hold both trophies, so the Net event went to Chris Cooper and Ralph Heading with a 74 net. Second place in the Net event went to David Jones and Michael Mason (76 net).
Congratulations to all winners. Thanks also to Ross Bishop for setting the course for today's event, which will be the same layout used for the upcoming Australia and Asia Pacific Hickory Championships.
