This year the State Foursomes Championship was held separately, the singles championship to be played later in the year. Twelve pairs competed on Monday 14 June 2021 at the Royal Queensland links for the trophy and title of State Hickory Foursomes Champion. The course was in formidable condition with fast greens and what could only be described as the most difficult pin positions — a true test of hickory golf.
The2021 Champions are Bruce Collins and Greg Mellifont from the Brisbane Golf Club with a gross 87 (net 72.5). Bruce has followed his good form after recently winning the New South Wales Hickory Open Net Handicap and fourth place in the stroke division.
Second were Bradley Tatnell and Ilija Soldan on 88 (79.15), notably Ilija's first ever hickory event. Third were Ivan Hodges and Ross Bishop 90 (75).
Net winners were Ivan Hodges and Ross Bishop 75, followed by Arthur O'Shea and Peter Egan 77.25, with Geoff Egarr and David Jones in third place with a net 77.7. The net event was played off hickory handicaps. We thank our handicapper Alan Grieve for keeping the handicaps up to date and Ross Bishop for setting up the course.
The Queensland Hickory Shaft Championships single event will be held in September over 2 days. Follow the link for full details.
