Norman von Nida Trophy

It was fitting this year that we played the Norman von Nida trophy at Norman's home club, Nudgee Golf Club. Although Norman caddied and played at RQ he has always recogised Nudgee as his home club.

The Bulka course is very suitable for hickory golf as the high scores demonstrated. There were two temporary holes but when the course has settled down it will be a great venue for futuer events.

Roger Gibson won with 42 points. The same score as last year's winner David Jones. Following behind was Greg Cooper taking second place on a count back from Peter Kyffin both on 40 points. Peter a full-time hickory player had a commendable 78 gross.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The player of the year award this year went to Ross Bishop on 73 points with Phillip Akes and Roger Gibson both on 40 points. Ross hit purple form this year winning both the Australian Hickory Shaft Championship and South Australian Championships in Adelaide in September. The POY competition was limited this year because of the weather washouts of at least 3 monthly events, which makes Ross' win all the more remarkable.

Four Point Competition

This year's winner was Greg Cooper pipping Roger Gibson at the post.  The President donated the prize.

Christmas Dinner

Festivities commenced in the Centenary Library and we were joined by our patron Charlie Earp . Members enjoyed a Christmas dinner of succulent chicken and ham followed by plum pudding. An enjoyable evening was had by all. I was delighted to see so many of our lady players join us for dinner although, with the excepton of Rosemary McKeon they were missing in action at Nudgee. They promise to participate more fully in the 2026 season!

Thanks to the team at Royal Queensland for providing a quality meal with great service. 

Congratulations to all the winners over the last year and we hope to see growing fields for next years events.
